Cambodia visa

Last updated: 1st June 2010.

Visa Exemption:

Nationals of Laos, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam are exempt from Visa requirements for a period of up to 30 days.

Nationals of the Philippines may stay visa free for periods of up to 21 days.

Visa Extensions:

The tourist visa is valid for a single entry of up to 30 days and can be extended, one time only, at a cost of 25.00 USD. This grants you an additional 30 days. If for whatever reason you cannot arrange an extension or have used up your maximum validity you must go on a visa run, simply cross through customs and submit another application form and the supporting documentation and fee.

If you do intend to stay for longer than 30 days it is recommended that you apply for a Cambodian business visa which will be valid for three months, it costs just 5.00 USD more than the standard tourist visa and can save a whole heap of trouble. The business visa can be extended almost indefinitely for periods of up to a year. You do not need any additional paperwork for the business visa, simply tick the box marked business visa.

Overstaying your visa:

Expect to be charged 6.00 USD for each day that you overstay your visa validity.

Departure tax:

For overland crossings there is no departure tax. If you depart by air expect to pay USD25.00 for international flights and 6.00 USD for domestic flights.

Order a visa through an agent

In the past, when I have had to order multiple visas or had to apply with complicated support documentation, (Russia), I have often employed the services of a dedicated agency. I have found that the extra cost is offset by the price of a train ticket to London, a couple of days of frantic roaming and hours of waiting in queues. I recently ordered my Russian, Mongolian and Chinese multiple entry visas through an agency and had them all back in my possession in about 14 days. It’s even easier than postal applications, you only have to send your passport once and they do the legwork, this is a lot faster and safer than sending your passport through the post multiple times to each embassy, by recorded delivery from home.

At present Visa HQ can arrange visas and support documentation for most nationalities and destinations worldwide.

eVisa service

There have been heated debates regarding the reliability of the eVisa service, and it is plagued by a number of sites that have sprung up attempting to extort money through false representation.

The correct website is at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. You can apply for the eVisa online using their eVisa application page. The eVisa is valid for a single entry stay of up to 30 days and the charge is 25.00 USD. Processing time quoted by the service is 3 business days at which time you should receive a visa by email to print at home. This is useful to avoid queues at immigration in Cambodia and the notorious ‘problems’ at the Koh Kong border crossing.

Only the tourist visa is available through the eVisa service. For business and other visa types, the Visa on Arrival service or a Pre-Departure Visa will need to be arranged.

Requirements for eVisa:

  • A passport with at least 6 months validity beyond the intended length of stay
  • A recent passport sized photograph in digital format (JPEG or PNG format)
  • A valid credit card (Visa/Mastercard/American Express/Discover)

Countries not supported by eVisa:

Nationals of Afghanistan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Sudan may not apply for a Visa through the eVisa service.

eVisa is valid for entry at the following airports and crossings:

  • Airports:

  • Phnom Penh International Airport
  • Siem Reap International Airport

Visa on Arrival

Visa on Arrival is easily arranged for people of most nationalities including the UK, Ireland, Austrailia and the USA. The service is not available for nationals of Afghanistan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Sudan.
