When you trek to Mardi Himal, you reach an altitude of 4,500 meters, which can cause altitude sickness. Altitude sickness starts with shortness of breath and weakness, followed by diarrhea and insomnia.
Trekkers need to be very careful because even fit people can be hit by Acute Mountain Sickness due to low oxygen level and atmospheric level.
Altitude sickness can also lead to death if the trekkers are not careful. But by following the right preventive measures, you can easily save yourself from Acute Mountain Sickness. The best thing you can do to prevent altitude sickness is taking a day off while you trek so that your body gets adjusted with the altitude. Also, you need to keep yourself hydrated. Make sure you drink enough water and stay away from alcohol as it causes dehydration.
Weather in the mountain region is unpredictable, in Mardi Himal Trek route weather cannot be predicted. However, the best time for this trek is autumn (mid-September to early December) and spring (February to April).
In December and January, the temperature gets freezing, which makes Mardi Himal Trek very tough. Also, the passes can be blocked because of avalanche and heavy snowfall.
Accommodation and Food
You will not find any luxury hotels in this trek, Mardi Himal Trek is a lodge or tea house trek. In the peak season, you have to share your rooms, mattress, and bathroom with other trekkers. You might not be able to get a hot shower in this region because of the cold weather. However, if you pay a small charge, you can get hot water in some places. As you get to a higher altitude, the accommodation and the services become limited.
While trekking in Nepal, the most common food you will find is ‘Dal-Bhaat,’ it costs less and fills better. Apart from it, you can find curries, momo, tea, coffee, hot lemon, and bakery items. At higher altitudes, the price of the food will get higher. The same menu can cost you more expensive, and the menu will also get limited due to the transportation cost.
Despite the difficulties, Mardi Himal Trek is the perfect getaway for trekkers. This is a short trek and is doable with a little bit of preparations. Focus on your strong aspects, and you will make the best out of the trek.
