Is Cairns, Australia On Your Travel Bucket List?
Cairns, Australia has over the years become the place where visitors go to get the ‘Aussie Experience’ during their tour of the land down-under. Cairns is usually the jump off point where people come to explore the Great Barrier Reef. There are, however, many other attractions in the Cairns area that have made it one of the most popular places to visit. Here are some things to see and do while in Cairns.
Babinda Boulders sits in the middle of a lush rain forest and offers a great picnic and swimming spot for visitors and locals alike. The water at Babinda Boulders is clear and the rainforest makes a great background for a picnic after your refreshing swim.
The devil’s pool neighbours Babinda Boulders and water from the Babinda Creek flows into the Devils pool. The pool gets its name from the churning waters as a result of the water moving across numerous pools and rocks. This makes Devil’s Pool rather hard to swim in for most parts of the year. During the dry season, however, it is possible to swim in the Devil’s Pool although great caution is required.
Josephine Falls is located in Cairns and offers a great spot for diving and swimming. The falls are set in a lush rainforest and the banks of the river offer a mini-beach experience as they are made up of pristine sand. Visitors who visit Josephine Falls normally enjoy diving at the numerous pools at the base of the falls for a refreshing swim.
Mission Beach sits halfway between Townsville and Cairns and comprises four beach villages joined together by over 14 kilometres of beautiful golden beach. The coastline faces East at Mission Beach, and that’s why the sunrises are spectacular to watch as the sun rises over the shimmering ocean. Tourists can access any of the nearby towns by a variety of means including bus charter and those towns offer even more interesting things to do such as authentic local dishes or shopping.
Tully River (White Water Rafting)
If you want to add some excitement in your holiday, Cairns has exactly what you are looking for. The Tully River in Cairns offers amazing white water rafting opportunities. When you are done testing your rafting skills, you can enjoy the delights of a nature walk through the rain forest around Tully River and even get to see local wildlife.
The Great Barrier Reef
Of course, we would be remiss if we talked about Cairns without talking of its key attraction namely The Great Barrier Reef. There are many ways of exploring this marine wonder but the best way is from a large pontoon out in the sea. From the Pontoon, visitors can snorkel, scuba dive and do many other activities that enable them to experience the amazing marine life in and around the reef.
One of the best ways to explore the rainforests of Cairns is to use the rainforest Skyrail. This is a cable car with a glass bottom that allows you to take in the views of the forest as the cable car moves slowly above the lush green vegetation.
These are some of the many lovely things that bring thousands of tourists to Cairns every year. They are also the reason why this lovely place needs to be on your list of places to visit in 2019.
