Prashar Lake Trek: All You need to know
About (WHY TO GO)
The Prashar Lake is located in the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh. It is a secluded lake which is surrounded by the Dhauladhar mountain ranges. The Prashar Lake trek is a fairly easy trek suitable for all expertise levels. It will take you through a beautiful trail through several rivulets and forests. The trekking trail passes through villages where you can stop to experience the local culture. While on this trek, you can see the Kinnaur, Pir Panjal, and the Dhauladhar mountain ranges.
If you fancy old architecture, you can visit the Prashar Rishi temple situated close to the lake, which features unique Himachali architecture. The Prashar Lake campsite is located close to the water of the Lake and here you can find yourself in harmony with nature. The water of the lake is frozen and it can get quite cold here, with the temperature remaining in the range of 13 to 18 degrees Celcius during the day and 0 to 7 degrees at night.
You have to start the trek from Kantlu which is a 2 hours journey from the town of Mandi. It is best to start trekking early in the morning after having breakfast. In the beginning, you have to follow a steep way path for about 500 metres. To your right, you will see the picturesque valley.
Then you enter a jungle filled with rhododendron trees. The steep slope flats out a bit at this point and after travelling for 400 metres or so you come to a clearing form where you can see the majestic Dhauadhar range. This is a great spot to test your photography skills and stop for a short break.
After the clearing, you come to an oak forest which follows a gradual ascend. You have to travel for another 1 Km to reach yet another clearing. After that, you have to walk on a regular motorable road for about 700 metres. This will take you to Til where you can find small shops selling varieties of items.
The road goes uphill from here, to a meadow where you can stop for lunch. Continue along the path flanked by an apple orchard till you reach a clearing from where you can see the Triund, Kap Chuli, Hanuman Tibba, Man Hill, Manali peak, and others. After, you have to go through a forest trail until you come to a lake where there are small huts. Then comes another motorable road where you have to cross a few houses and then take a turn to reach a low ground until you see the Prashar Lake. The Bhrigu Lake trek is another challenging trek you can complete after you are done with Prashar.
Prashar Lake is a popular destination for Honeymoon tours. You should avoid visiting this place in the extremely cold winter where the roads might be hard to traverse. The best time to visit this place is between early May and late July.
